At Casa Verde Wellness, we’re here to meet all of your cannabis needs. We love what we do, and a part of our job is to educate our community about the ins and outs of the cannabis world. Here, we’ll take a look at the difference between THC and THCA, what you can expect when you consume one or both of these cannabinoids, and how each may be able to benefit your overall well-being.
What is THC?
THC is the psychoactive compound found in cannabis that produces the physical and mental effects known as a high. Consumption methods include smoking, vaping, or cooking cannabis to activate THC.
What is THCA?
THCA is the raw form of THC. It’s not activated, meaning it doesn’t create a high like THC. THCA can become activated with heat or time, allowing it to transform into THC and become psychoactive.
Differences Between THC and THCA
The main difference between THC and THCA is that THC is psychoactive, where as THCA is not. In most places where THC is illegal, THCA is legal, and sold in the form of capsules, tinctures, or is consumed through juicing.
Benefits of THC vs THCA
Both cannabinoids have some health benefits. THC is more widely studied and is known and praised for its ability to relieve pain and stimulate appetite. Some people also find that THC is helpful for depression and anxiety due to its psychoactive effects.
More research needs to be done on THCA for scientists to fully understand the positive effects that it may have on the body. Thus far, it’s believed that THCA may have neuroprotective effects, as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea effects.
